Cat & Dog Wellness Exams
Routine Pet Checkups for Optimal Health
Regular wellness exams, along with vaccinations, preventive care, and proper nutrition, play a vital role in helping your furry friend stay healthy and thrive throughout their life.
When you bring your dog or cat in for their routine checkup, the focus is on prevention and early disease detection. By catching the earliest signs of problems and beginning treatment right away, our goal is to halt the progression of disease and restore your pet's good health.
This proactive approach can not only give you more time with your beloved pet, but it can also save you time and money by addressing potential health issues before they become more difficult and expensive to treat.
What to Expect During an Exam
During your pet's routine exam at Arnprior Animal Hospital, your veterinarian will perform a thorough physical checkup to get a comprehensive picture of their overall health.
They will also check if your dog or cat is due for any routine vaccinations or preventive care.
Once your companion's exam has been completed, your veterinarian will take time to discuss any concerns they may have about your pet's overall health and talk to you about your dog or cat's nutritional requirements.
Pet checkups at our Arnprior veterinary clinic typically include an examination of each of the following elements:
-
General Condition
Your companion's general demeanour and physical condition can provide vital clues to their overall health. How they stand and walk, their level of alertness, and whether they are a healthy weight for their size are all important indicators of overall health.
-
Coat & Skin
During your dog or cat's checkup, your veterinarian will examine their skin and coat for signs of problems, including excessive oiliness or dryness, lumps, bumps, dandruff, or abnormal hair loss.
-
Face & Head
Your pet's checkup will include an examination of their eyes, ears, and nose. Your veterinarian will look for any abnormalities or unusual discharge in these areas.
-
Teeth & Mouth
We will check your companion's teeth and mouth for signs of oral health problems, such as plaque buildup or periodontal disease, to help determine if your pet requires dental care.
-
Internal Health
Heart rate, rhythm and pulse are essential elements of your dog or cat's heart health. We'll check these to ensure they're within normal limits. The lungs will then be examined for evidence of abnormal breathing.
Lymph nodes will be checked for pain or swelling, and we will also feel the abdomen to ensure the intestines, kidneys, bladder, spleen, liver, and stomach all feel normal, and that your pet is not exhibiting any signs of discomfort.
Checkups for Puppies & Kittens
To give your new puppy or kitten the healthiest start possible, it is essential to provide proper medical attention during their first few weeks of life. Our team will perform a detailed physical examination, administer necessary immunizations and deworming medication, and test for intestinal parasites.
After the initial checkup, regular visits will be needed to keep up with required boosters.

Checkups for Seniors
As pets enter their senior years, regular wellness exams become even more important to maintain their health and quality of life. During your senior dog or cat’s exam, your veterinarian will closely monitor for age-related conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, or vision changes.
Additional lab testing may be recommended to provide a thorough diagnosis and develop a customized treatment plan tailored to your pet’s needs.
