Veterinary Surgery
Surgical Services for Dogs & Cats in Renfrew County
At Arnprior Animal Hospital, we offer a wide range of surgical procedures to help maintain and restore good health for your dog or cat, including soft tissue surgery, spay and neuter procedures and dental surgery.
Our team understands that bringing a beloved companion in for surgery can be stressful for some pet parents. Rest assured that we only recommend surgery when we feel it is in the best interests of your beloved pet.
We strive to ensure that you fully understand why we are recommending a particular surgery for your pet and that you feel fully informed and comfortable making the decision to go ahead with the procedure.

Surgical Procedures
At Arnprior Animal Hospital, we perform elective and emergency surgeries to maintain good health, treat conditions, or repair injuries.
Our veterinarians may perform or refer the following elective and non-elective surgeries:
-
Spaying & Neutering
Spaying and neutering are common surgical procedures performed to sterilize pets, prevent potential disease, and extend the life expectancy of dogs and cats.
-
Dental Surgery
Our Arnprior veterinarians can perform dental surgeries such as oral mass removals to relieve pain and restore good oral health to dogs and cats.
-
Soft Tissue Surgery
Soft tissue surgery covers a range of ear, nose, and throat procedures as well as mass removals and treatment of flesh wounds. Almost all surgical procedures not related to bones or joints may be considered soft tissue surgery.
-
Lumpectomies
A lumpectomy is a surgical procedure to remove an abnormal growth on or beneath the skin, or attached to an organ wall. The lump is typically sent for analysis after removal. If benign, no further treatment may be needed; if malignant, additional care might be required to prevent spread.
The procedure involves removing the lump along with a margin of healthy tissue to reduce the risk of the mass growing back. While small, surface-level lumps may be removed under local anesthesia, most lumpectomies are performed under general anesthesia.
-
Laceration Repair
Wounds occur when living tissue has been cut, broken, burned, torn, or otherwise damaged. It's imperative that these wounds be cleaned, disinfected, and properly cared for by a qualified veterinarian as soon as possible to help prevent infection and other complications.
The Surgery Process
Before any surgery, we will complete a thorough pre-surgical assessment. This includes a physical examination of your pet, as well as blood tests to determine if they are at risk of anesthesia-related complications.
During surgery, a Registered Veterinary Technician manages your pet’s anesthesia and closely monitors their vital signs throughout the procedure to ensure their safety and comfort.
Post-operative monitoring and pain management are our priorities following surgery. One of our Registered Veterinary Technicians will provide thorough instructions for at-home care.
Sterilization Protocols
Surgical protocols at our clinic include dedicated surgical suites. Our staff wear sterile attire at all times in the surgical suite, and we carefully clean, sterilize and wrap our surgical instruments and equipment before every surgery.
